Baby Sleep Event at The Woman’s Place! Bring your baby and join other moms as they learn about baby sleep in the first year. Learn how baby sleep changes and what developments to expect as your baby grows. Get tips that will help you get more quality sleep in your first year as a parent.

Perhaps you’ve heard about the dreaded 4 month sleep regression or are in the throws of it right now! Your baby’s sleep changes constantly from the newborn’s short sleep cycles to the toddler’s longer more defined sleep cycles. This can make short naps and frequent night awakenings common in the early months. Developmental leaps can create other issues with sleep as babies learn new skills. Parents get little sleep in those first months. Learning gentle sleep shaping methods can help baby develop better sleep and avoid problems later. The ideal time to begin formal sleep training is between 3-6 months, but there are many things you can do before that time comes.

Here are some common questions I get about baby sleep and sleep training:

Can I sleep train while breastfeeding? Parents often ask if it is possible to sleep train a breastfed or bedsharing baby. The answer is “yes”! I specialize in helping breastfeeding families get more quality sleep while protecting your breastfeeding relationship and milk supply. As a lactation professional, it is important to me to find gentle methods that work for you and your baby. Sleep training does not mean night weaning unless that is your goal.

What sleep training methods are right for your family? That’s a big question! There are many different sleep training methods; from “cry it out” methods to Taking Cara Babies, to more hands-on gentle methods. All involve a bit of crying as each new developmental skill does, but crying can be minimized with the right methods and tweaking the plan if needed.

Why do I need someone to do a sleep plan for me? Can’t I just read a book or order one online? The key to successful sleep training is customization and support. I do offer a Just The Basics Sleep Plan, but even that package includes a thorough sleep assessment and customized plan. You just get to choose how much personal support you have while implementing the plan. Some parents feel confident with a more “do it yourself” plan, while others need someone checking in daily to support you and help you be consistent and make changes in the plan if needed. You get to choose!

So, let’s talk about all of this on Tuesday evening. Make it a family outing. Dads can attend our Just Dads Meet-up next door at Southern Shores Craft Beer and Wine with Chris Rickert while you and baby learn more about sleep here at The Woman’s Place. Go home with a few tips you can start right away. Please register for this event using the form below and put Baby Sleep Event in the comments. Class fee includes snacks provided by Smoke on the Water Restaurant.
